19th C. Bolivian Nickel Silver Crucifix

**First Time At Auction**

South America, Bolivia, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful crucifix pendant that is mold-cast from nickel silver (61% copper, 17% nickel, 17% zinc), an alloy of copper that utilizes nickel and zinc to imbue the metal with a silvery color. Delicate foliate, circular, and radiant motifs are engraved along both sides of the body and arms, and an applied effigy of Jesus Christ is soldered to the front. A maroon fabric strip is knotted through the integral suspension loop on top. Fine patina envelops the entire crucifix. Size: 3.2" W x 5.6" H (8.1 cm x 14.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Moore collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired around 1990

Condition Report: Slight bending to overall form of body, with softening to some engraved details and finer details on frontal effigy, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits within some recessed areas, and fine patina throughout.
