19th C. Chinese Bronze Claw Foot Candle Holder
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A fantastical cast-bronze candle holder comprised of two pieces: a clawed foot base, and a shallow pan. The pan has a low rim with a small pricket at the center for holding the candle in place. A socket underneath attaches the pan to the supporting shaft. The shaft forms the upper part of the leg and is decorated with a scrolling spur on the midsection. The foot stands on a cartouche shaped base that has a hollow underside. The clawed toes appear to be the talons of a bird. This will delightful piece is imaginative and unusual! Size: 4.125" Diameter x 7.9" H (10.5 cm x 20.1 cm)
