East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful, hand-carved wood travel altar featuring a triptych of 3 figures of Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara), "The Lord Who Gazes Down at The World," a figure often portrayed as both male or female who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Intricately sculpted with an openwork exterior of vines with a lotus flower at the top, each figure stands on an elevated lotus motif base, displaying a mudra with their hands, and wearing a long robe. Size (open): 9" W x 7.6" H (22.9 cm x 19.3 cm); (closed): 3.7" Diameter x 7.6" H (9.4 cm x 19.3 cm)
