19th C. Chinese Qing Ceramic Tile - Landscape & Figures

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. mid 19th century CE. A large and beautiful ceramic tile hand-painted with a vibrant scene within a frame. The elaborate landscape is filled with mountains, clouds, lush vegetation, and trees. Throughout are groupings of figures all engaged in different activities. In the top right, a monk or bodhisattva converses with another robed figure. Two groups practice calligraphy on scrolls, and another plays a stringed instrument. The figures all seem to be all engaged in scholarly and cultural pursuits. The greenery is accentuated by vibrant pops of color from their garments. This tile is well preserved and mounted in a modern frame and ready to be displayed!
