Northern Europe, England, Staffordshire, ca. mid- to late 19th century CE. A charming ensemble of Staffordshire porcelain figures consisting of 3 cottages and a church, all enveloped in lustrous glazes and adorned with textured garlands. Many of these likely served as pastille burners or coin or money banks. Statues like these were made in several regions of England in the Victorian period, deriving their name from the 17th century production of ceramics in the Staffordshire region, which was known for its white porcelain. Size of largest (church): 2.5" L x 5.5" W x 6.75" H (6.4 cm x 14 cm x 17.1 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition Report: No marks present. Chip to base of church and some small chips to flowers on beige-colored cottage. Otherwise, all are intact and excellent with nice craquelure to glaze and good remaining pigments.
