[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $850**

Northwestern Europe, ca. 19th century CE. A massive ox horn and silver cornucopia that may have graced the table or entry foyer of a grand estate! The hollow horn is mounted on a pair of silver-brass clawfoot legs with a low relief classical woman nursing 2 children. The open rim is a high quality 90% silver fitting. Usually, the centerpiece of a feast and an iconic emblem of Thanksgiving in the United States, cornucopias were popular motifs in the 19th century to symbolize a generous and fortunate host, vestiges of the drinking horns from classical antiquity and Viking eras, and the clawed feet are inspired by the stands commonly seen in Medieval horns. Size: 22" L x 4.5" Diameter x 13" H (55.9 cm x 11.4 cm x 33 cm); silver quality: 21% to 90.11%

Condition Report: Repair to horn with a horn patch / inlay near the narrow tip. Missing a silver mounting, with stain to horn and remains of adhesive where it attached.
