19th C. Lap Desk w/ Owner's Carved Wood Ink Stamp

19th century mahogany lap desk with inlaid diamond to top of hinged lid, inlaid escutcheon, dovetailed case, interior with hinged writing surface over storage below, back of one writing surface signed in pencil "L B Cox Nov 1866", one end with divided compartments for ink wells and pens; contains one 5 1/8"L carved wood ink stamp of owner's name "L. B. Cox" and one 1 5/8"L rubber or composite ink stamp of owner's name "L. B. Cox" mounted on carved wood handle; box 19 3/4"W, 10"D, 7 1/2"H; losses around escutcheon, cover on interior writing surface missing, small losses to bottom edges on sides, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use (Ref. 187-1)
