19th C. Naga Wood Helmet with Woven Fiber Crown

Central Asia, Himalaya Burma Border to India, Naga, ca. 19th century CE. An antique helmet with a rattan basket-weave form and a wonderful wooden lattice arching over it. The Naga people are a combination of tribes in northeastern India and northwestern Burma; during the time that this helmet was made, they still led a very traditional lifestyle and engaged in headhunting.
