South America, Peru, Spanish Colonial era, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A collection of glass beads primarily green and yellow with a few blue- strung together as a wearable necklace in modern times on a nylon wire. Glass was introduced to Peru during the Spanish conquest; the translucent and vibrant gem-like qualities were prized by the indigenous people and glass beads played a major role in trade and adornment, and as grave goods. Size of strand doubled: 27.5" L (69.8 cm); beds: 0.13" Diameter (0.3 cm)
