[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $250**

Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden coconut grater in the form of an abstract zoomorphic creature with a bulky, tubular body and two sets of fused, attenuated legs. The spindle-shaped head has a central carination perhaps indicative of a mane, and from the mouth protrudes a serrated, S-shaped grating tool. Traces of brown, white, and red pigment on the body and head suggest that this tool was at one time painted with bright colors. Size: 26.25" L x 5.125" W x 9.4" H (66.7 cm x 13 cm x 23.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-Dave De Roche collection, Piedmont, California, USA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#148044
Condition Report: Nicks and abrasions to legs, body, head, and grating tool, with slight bending to form of grating tool, several stable fissures, fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations within some fissures, otherwise intact and very good. Smooth patina and faint remains of original pigment throughout.
