19th Cent. Dutch 800 Silver Trinket Box

DESCRIPTION: 800 silver trinket box decorated with ornate, detailed reliefs of village scene on the lid and fishing scene on the sides. Front of lid is embellished with a curvilinear motif and bottom of box proper is decorated with foliage and curvilinear designs. Box has four legs each of which is designed as a topless woman from the navel up; each woman supports the box with her head and both hands. Below the torso of each woman is a foliage laden foot with a scroll design connected to a central point via further bars with a curvilinear design. Hallmarks on side indicate piece was a Dutch export; other hallmarks present. Total weight: 408g.
