LOT 0001

19th Century Girandole Banjo Clock

[ translate ]

19th century girandole banjo clock in the style of Lemuel Curtis, dial signed "Curtis and Dunning" and throat glass signed "L. Curtis," both signatures appear to be later additions. The dial looks to have been paper attached to iron that was later painted over and the signature added, Roman numerals are embossed, throat glass has newer glazing holding it in it, lower glass depicts "John 2:1-11" and looks to be the original having old glazing, left side arm is detached at the base, doors latch with a hook and eye. The unsigned movement appears to be handmade and is of the Curtis style having a "t-bridge" suspension and Curtis style click and spring. The keystone is cut at the lower right as seen in clocks by Curtis, old iron "trident" style hands, unusual movement mounting with movement resting in a steel plate on the backboard and level below, lead weight is signed "Foster S. Campos," eagle finial with crack on the tail, running, strike working, 41 in. high x 13 in. wide x 5 in. deep.
