19th Century John Meier and Son Ironstone Footbath Transfer Printed in Pale Blue with Ornithology Pattern. The squat, ovulat shaped footbath with two broad, scroll-form handles applied to the sides. Transfer-printed in lavender blue with trellis, with birds in cartouches, including pheasants, grouse, quail, etc. The same motif, upside down, to the base. The wide center band featuring an extensive motif of oak trees framing an eagle on a rocky perch near a waterfall, possibly Niagara. The scene, even more elaborate, to the interior face. including mountain peaks, possibly from the Catskills. The mark, printed to the underside in the same lavender blue, an eagle, holding a ribbon, indistinctly printed with the maker. Impressed 18 to underside. Staffordshire, England.
