19th Century Map of United States Painted Tin

Item/Description: Early Americana 19th Century painted tin map of the United States. Highlighted area top right includes Winchendon, Massachusetts, "The Home of the Toy Industry." We believe this tin may have been an advertisement for Winchendon or the Toy Industry. Winchendon settled in 1735 and incorporated in 1764. Its proximity to the Millers River provided waterpower for the development of mills used to manufacture grain, wooden products, textiles and toys. Winchendon’s toy industry was so successful it became known as “Toy Town", a name that it retains to this day. (Tin Advertisement, Tin Map, Architectural Antiques).

Material: Painted Metal Tin.

Dimensions: Image size: Height: 13 7/8"; Width: 18 3/4".

Condition: Fair. Heavy surface and age wear, grime, areas of corrosion to back, mulitple holes.

Age: 19th Century.
