19th Century Marble Coat of Arms of St. George

[ translate ]

Splendid "yellow nembro" marble coat of arms depicting St. George on horseback. In the Middle Ages, St. George's struggle against the dragon became the symbol of the struggle of good against evil and, for this reason, the world of chivalry saw its ideals embodied in it. The legend of the soldier who won the dragon contributed to the spread of his cult, which became very popular in the West and in the whole Byzantine East, where he is par excellence the "great martyr" and the "triumphant". He quickly became one of the most revered saints in every part of the Christian world.
