19th Century Naga Head Hunter Warriors Ceremonial Headdress. Hand-dyed red hair, rattan, boar tusk, organic fiber; the red hair down the crest of the hat with the boar tusk hung to the front. Red 'David Howard Tribal Art' sticker; catalogue number '796A'. Circa 1870. {Approximate dimensions: 8 1/2 high x 11 long x 5 3/4 inches wide.}. Similar examples in "The Nagas: Hill People of Northeast India: Society, Culture and the Colonial Encounter" by Julian Jacobs, pages 225 and 226. Condition: Overall wear appropriate from tribal use. Some restoration to the rattan weaving that encircles the bottom of the headdress. 2 minor holes in the left and right sides on the bottom of the headdress that where were once used to attach a chin strap.
