19th Chinese Style Carved/Painted Screen
This Chinese-style four-panel folding floor screen features hand-painted scenes of traditional village life and landscapes across a richly aged brown ground. Each panel is decorated with intricate architectural details, figures in traditional dress, and mountain vistas, all finished with a characteristic heavy craquelure. The lower registers of the panels are further accented with depictions of koi fish and floral motifs.
Condition
Good antique condition with significant age-related wear including surface craquelure throughout, fading to pigments, and small chips to the wood edges. The lacquer finish shows extensive stable cracking (crazing) which adds to the period character. Structural integrity appears intact but requires careful handling.
