The table in tender shows us a scholar or scholar in his place of work, a room full of different and varied objects in the purest wunderkammer style. The composition of the painting is carefully designed to guide the viewer's gaze throughout the scene, from the glazed window to the wall next to which plates, ewers and jugs rest. A suit of armor on the floor next to the protagonist tells of his fondness for the medieval world. The focal point is on the scholar, whose stooped posture and weathered countenance speak of his advanced age. Color plays an important role in the painting, with warm, earthy tones dominating the palette.
