19th to 20thC walking Sukhothai Buddha-Beautifully cast

Beautifully cast 19th to 20thC walking Sukhothai style Buddha. One of the most graceful of all Buddhist forms, this meditation in motion shows Thai sculpture at it's pinnacle. This is almost certainly a revival piece brought about by Rama V (the King and I King) in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century in Bangkock. He loved this form and brought hundreds of large statues from the ancient capital city of Sukhothai to the new capitol Bangkok, and commissioned and encouraged the making of large numbers of this type.They remained popular through the late 19th and early 20th century, and continue being made up until today. This is a particularly large and fine example, and likely dates from close to 100 years ago. Stands 24.5 inches tall including the base , and measures 6 inches in diameter at the base.
