19thC.IRISH DININGROOM COVERFROM IRELAND. - Cotton - Late 19th century
This is the second cotton "former bedspread" which came to us through the French-Irish Aristocratic Dynasty family having lived in France since the 15th C. . They were hand embroidered in the late 19th C and served as bedspreads. However the owner told us that they were never used as such and have been in the Armoire ever since. We have photographed this beautiful design as a dinner table cover and think it warrants it more than a bedspread behind closed doors. The large centre piece is oval with leaves and held together with 4 ribbon bows. Both ends have further oval wreaths held together with a large ribbon bow. The circular 4 corners have further garlands with flowers. The borders have beautiful garlands with tender branches with leaves. A rare piece to cherish.
