Martha Washington (1731-1802) was the wife of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Although the title was not coined until after her death, Martha Washington served as the inaugural First Lady of the United States. During her lifetime she was often referred to as "Lady Washington"

John Chester Buttre [Auburn, NY, June 30, 1821 - Ridgewood, NJ, Dec.2, 1893). Worked as a wood engraver in Auburn; moved to New York City in 1841. Specialized on line engraving for magazines. Buttre successfully established his own business and employed other engravers. Buttre remained active until his death. [Reference: David McNeely Stauffer, American Engravers Upon Copper and Steel, Volume 1, pp. 38-39].
