2 Ancient Levantine & Canaanite Bronze Figures
Ancient Near East, The Levant or Anatolia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE; The Levant, Canaan, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1900 to 1550 BCE. A great selection of two cast-bronze figures of characteristically stylized and abstracted forms, each covered in fine layers of patina. The first figure is Levantine or Anatolian in origin and features a slender body with a tapered, edge-shaped base, a pair of nubbin arms, a spade-shaped head with a conical brow, and ringlets within each eye. A length of wire is wrapped around the neck with a petite central pendant. The second figure is Canaanite in origin and depicts a seated figure - perhaps the deities Baal or Moloch - with outstretched arms and a pair of horns projecting from his head. An integral tenon beneath the verso suggests this figure was set into a larger scene, perhaps with additional figures. Size of largest (Canaanite): 1" W x 2.68" H (2.5 cm x 6.8 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

Condition Report: Both figures have minor abrasions and encrustations, with softening to some finer details, and bending to length of wire on Levantine/Anatolian figure, otherwise intact and very good. Both figures have nice patina throughout.
