2 Chimu Blackware Vessels - Bowl & Double Chambered

>Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A fine gathering of two hand-built and highly burnished Chimu blackware vessels. First is a broad bowl with a round but stable base, a tapered shoulder adorned with low-relief cresting waves among a field of stippling, and a narrow mouth above the deep basin. Second is a two-chambered vessel with a bridge between the two bodies, a pair of wide-rimmed spouts, and a bridge handle spanning the gap. Surmounting one spout is a stylized jaguar figure in a crouching pose holding a severed human head. Size of largest (two-chambered): 8.625" L x 7.6" H (21.9 cm x 19.3 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-artist Harry Bertschmann collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 1980s

#151297 Dimensions: Condition Report: Bowl has area of repair to rim, and two-chambered vessel repaired from multiple pieces with losses to body of one chamber and light adhesive residue along break lines. Both vessels have minor nicks and abrasions, with light fading to original black color, and softening to some finer details. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original pigment throughout.
