[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $350**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 300 CE. A nice set of 2 hand-built pottery figures from ancient Mexico, a Colima seated "gingerbread” and a standing Nayarit polychrome figure resting on dramatically arched feet and stocky legs. The gingerbread is so-named for its relatively flat body style, the legs outstretched and hands resting on his knees. The pose is characteristically rigid, the broad shoulders support an elongated head with a protruding nose, impressed eyes and mouth, and applied headdress, necklace, and arms bands. The red surface slipped in a chalky white pigment. The Nayarit figure has a square and flattened torso profile as well, the head features bulging nose and septum piercing, painted eyes, large ears, and a curved headdress. The surface is painted with dense linear striations that form broad diamond-shaped patterns throughout. Size of Colima figure: 5" L x 2.75" W x 5.5" H (12.7 cm x 7 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired from Heritage Auctions, New York, USA, December 5th, 2010, Lot #56389.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#170141
Condition Report: Gingerbread figure is repaired with arms and legs reattached and visible break lines. Light mineral deposits and fading to pigments. Nayarit figure has chip to foot, otherwise intact and very good.
