2 Dean Meeker 1940's Surrealist Charcoals

These quality framed 1940's Surrealist signed charcoal drawing are by internationally renowned Wisconsin printmaker and sculptor Dean Meeker (1920-2002). The first depicts a skeletal bird/man and measures 23.5" tall X 19.25" across, framed. The second depicts a skeletal horse creature and measures 23" tall X 19" across framed.Meeker started as a sculptor but quickly became influential and innovative printmaker. He was the first printmaker to overprint silkscreens with polymer intaglio, giving his works a 3 Dimensional quality. He was the co-inventor of the Meeker-McFee motorized etching press. He taught Silkscreening at University of Wisconsin Madison for 46 years. He was a 1959 recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. His Sculptures, paintings and prints are in over 100 important world collections to include New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery in Washington DC, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
