[ translate ]

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful pair of necklaces comprised of over a hundred ancient beads of blue faience, lapis lazuli, agate, and electrum! The longer strand is entirely petite seed beads formed of faience and glazed a slate-blue, gathered on a modern cotton thread. The other necklace is symmetrically arranged with dozens of petite tubular lapis stones, 10 electrum beads, and 8 flattened lapis discs placed at intervals along the length, all coalescing at a banded agate stone pendant. These strands are both strung in modern times but will benefit from being restrung with more secure wires and clasps to be fully wearable. Size of faience strand doubled: 27" L (68.6 cm); beads: 0.125" L (0.3 cm); lapis necklace: 20.75" L (52.7 cm); agate pendant: 0.65" L x 0.25" W (1.7 cm x 0.6 cm); electrum quality: 43% to 57% gold; 20% to 44% silver; total weight of strand: 5.6 grams

Provenance: ex-Barakat Gallery, Los Angeles, California, USA

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

#164440
Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to beads on both strands, otherwise very good condition. Both necklaces are strung in modern times but should be restrung on more secure wires as these cotton threads are frayed. We highly recommend this to make these necklaces fully wearable.
