Latin America, Mexico, Guanajuato, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. Talavera captures the rich history of Spanish Colonial art as it truly embodies its multicultural heritage, drawing upon influences from Egypt, China, Persia, Africa, Moorish Spain, Italy, and Mexico! Size of largest: 10" Diameter x 4.25" H (25.4 cm x 10.8 cm)

Talavera is a style of majolica pottery named after the Spanish village of Talavera de la Reina. This style has a long and complex history, drawing influences from Moorish, Egyptian, Italian, Chinese, African, Persian, and Pre-Columbian sources. In medieval times the Moors brought a profound knowledge of pottery from ancient Egypt and Near East into Spain. This knowledge underwent further refinement through the influences of the Italian Renaissance. When Spain colonized Mexico, the distinctive pottery styles and techniques once again merged with those of the Mayans and Aztecs.
