2 Necklaces w/ Ecuadorian Spindle Whorls & Beads

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi Province, Bahia culture, ca. 5th to 1st century BCE; Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A set of 2 necklaces, each with a unique presentation. The first necklace bears pottery seed-form beads interspersed amongst spindle whorls and petite zoomorphic pendants, and the central pendant displays an attenuated anthropomorphic figure with arms draped across the chest. The larger necklace is strung with dozens of spindle whorls large and small, and the central pendant has sides indented like a gourd. Size of largest: 33.25" L (84.5 cm); (largest bead): 1.06" W x 0.98" H (2.7 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition Report: Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Pottery beads are ancient; stringing is modern. Abrasions and nicks to some beads, otherwise most are intact and very good. Nice preservation to overall forms and most incised decorations.
