2 Old Venavi Twins - Wood - Agbagli Kossi - Ewe - Togo - 23 cm
EWE Venavi Twin (Togo, Benin) EWE Twin Figures (Togo, Benin) Venovi Ewe Zwillingsfigur 20 and 20 cm This style is characteristic of the creations of the Togolese sculptor, Agbagli Kossi (1935-1991) . Curiously, while the usual production of this sculptor does not represent the attributes of the male sex, they have been added here, perhaps the customer's choice or a request of the soothsayer? Damages and lacks visible on the pictures The EWE live in a coastal area which extends through Ghana, Togo, Benin, up to the Nigerian borders. They practise twin worship, very similar to that of the Yoruba, and it is in this context that these statuettes are crafted, in very varied styles sometimes depending on the influences of their neighbours (the Akan, in Ghana, the Yoruba in Nigeria) . . . Abgebildete Figur der Ewe aus Benin. Im Voodoo Kontext, Mittler zu den Göttern. . .
