2 Philippines Shields 1 Brass Insignia
Group of three objects from the Philippines. Includes one brass GVC cypher/insignia for the Guardia Civil Veterana of Manila, Philippine Revolution, 1872-1898. One Ifugao wood shield with rattan lashing with two lower rattan strips missing. One mahogany shield with bronze bosses, horse hair, leather, and sea shells, given to General Henry Tureman Allen (U.S. Calvary) by one of his Filipino soldiers. Allen was stationed in the Philippines from 1899-1907 to put down an insurgency and was briefly governor of the Island of Leyte. Inscribed along the reverse, "Monteso, Shield, Palawan, by one [of] my soldiers." Dimensions: Insignia; height: 4 1/8 in.
