Description: Fantastic 2 rare photographs from Captain Roald Amundsen’s voyage to the arctic circle aboard the Maud along with scientist Harald Sverdrup. One photo is of Sverdrup and the other is of Inuit crewmen. With these photos comes two tags that both read: “First and exclusive photo of explorer Amundsen and party in artic waste. These are the first and exclusive photos to reach the outside world of Captain Amundsen and his hardy associates since they entered the frozen artic wastes. During the long winter he will live in a small portable hut waiting for the opportunity to fly across the “top of the world.”” The tag continues individually describing the photographs as: “This photo shows Dr. H.V. Sverdrup, famous Norwegian scientist, on board the Maud, lodged fast in the ice” and the other reading: “This photo shows Eskimoes wo helped load the Maud, Amundsen’s ship, going aboard the C.S. Holmes, which rendered great aid to their party.” Sverdrup was the scientific director of the North Polar expedition of Roald Amundsen aboard the Maud from 1918 to 1925. Although they were unable to reach the North Pole, the scientific results of the expedition, mainly the work of Sverdrup, have proven to be of considerable value
