2 Vintage Meisselbach Surf Reels
With a circa 1914 model that utilizes a rim mounted free spool sliding plate and push-button on the head plate to place the gears back in place for the retrieve. Made of hard rubber and nickel silver, it also features a sliding click switch on the tail plate side and a locking handle nut. This particular reel appears on page 133 of Antique Fishing Reels - 2nd Edition by Steve Vernon, in which he shows the inner workings under the head plate. The second reel is a model #50, the last of the free spool surf reels from Meisselbach, with a head plate button to place the reel in free spool, requiring the angler to "pull" the handle towards them to place back in gear. The reels are in VG+ and VG respectively.
