It would be easy to associate the BMW Z8 with other retro-revival cars of the 1990s and early 2000s, but that would hardly be the case. BMW had already honoured its past with the sporty Z3 roadster, after all. So, the Z8 instead married the muscular V-8 engine from BMW's Motorsports division with the considerable design talent of lead exterior pen Henrik Fisker. This was to be the company's halo car and would boldly launch BMW into the 21st Century.
The Z8, nearly identical to the Z07 show car from the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, was unlike any BMW since the M1. Its styling evoked the BMW 507—the design icon that so nearly bankrupted the fledgling automaker in the 1950s. Under its sumptuous curves sat an M5-sourced S62 4.9-litre V-8 paired to a six-speed manual transmission. The Z8 had the power to back up its stunning styling.
Around 5,700 examples were hand-built in Munich over a three-year run, after the Z8 made its silver screen debut in the 1999 James Bond blockbuster The World is Not Enough. Following the Z3's role in Goldeneye, the Z8 starred in a short but memorable scene with Agent 007 behind the wheel. Nevertheless, it captivated fans worldwide and proved that BMW was a force to be reckoned with. The Z8 is undoubtedly one of the most desirable modern BMWs, and it holds a place in the hearts of many BMW enthusiasts for its retro styling, exciting performance, and wonderful driving dynamics.
The Z8 offered here is a US-delivery example that was delivered to BMW of Cincinnati, Ohio on 15 June 2000. Finished in the desirable colour combination of Black over two-tone black and cream nappa leather upholstery beneath a black soft top, this Z8 remained registered in Ohio until it was exported to Germany in April 2014, and was subsequently purchased by The Carrera Collection in the same year. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer read around 10,500 miles, and the BMW is offered with a hard-top roof.

Man könnte es sich leicht machen, und den BMW Z8 mit anderen Retrodesigns der 1990er und frühen 2000er Jahre in einen Topf werfen – doch damit würde man ihm Unrecht tun. Der Z8 war beinahe identisch mit der Konzeptstudie Z07, die ihm auf der Tokio Motor Show 1997 vorangegangen war, und so ganz anders als alle anderen BMWs seit dem M1. Sein Design war eine Hommage an den 507 Roadster, die Styling-Ikone, die den taumelnden Autohersteller in den 1950er Jahren an den Rand des Ruins gebracht hat. Unter der wunderbar kurvigen Form fand sich der Fünfliter-V8 des Typs S62 aus dem M5, angeflanscht an ein Sechsgang-Handschaltgetriebe. Zweifelsohne hatte der Z8 die Power, die sein gewagtes Äußeres versprach.
Im Laufe von drei Jahren wurde in München 5700 Einheiten des Zweisitzers gebaut, nachdem er im 1999er James Bond-Film „Die Welt ist nicht genug“ sein Debut gegeben hatte. Nach dem erfolgreichen Placement des Z3 in James Bonds „Goldeneye“ fiel dem Z8 eine kurze, aber berühmte Szene mit Agent 007 am Lenkrad zu. Er zog Fans auf der ganzen Welt in seinen Bann und etablierte BMW als Kraft, mit der zu rechnen ist. Ausgestattet in der begehrten Farbkombination Schwarz mit zweifarbigem schwarzem und cremefarbenem Nappaleder-Interieur mit schwarzem Verdeck, blieb dieser Z8 in Ohio registriert, bis er im April 2014 nach Deutschland exportiert und im selben Jahr von The Carrera Collection erworben wurde.
