Fr. 248 $2 1896 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ S. The perennially popular "Educational Series" silver certificates were issued beginning in 1896 and almost immediately created a sensation due to their somewhat provocative design that featured strong allegorical and symbolic messages. The $2 was the middle denomination of the series and featured a wonderful vignette titled Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Industry. The back features portraits of Fulton and Morse. This note is deeply inked and printed on bright paper with excellent embossing that attest to its originality.
