20057: Fr. 353 $2 1890 Treasury Note PMG Gem Uncirculat

[ translate ]

Fr. 353 $2 1890 Treasury Note PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. This $2 Treasury (coin) note was one of a number of issues in the decades following the Civil War that depicted well known Union military officers. Your cataloger believes that they were issued as a not-terribly-subtle reminder of who won the Civil War. In any case, General James McPherson, who was killed in action during the Battle of Atlanta on July 22, 1864, is depicted on this note. This variety also sports an attractive large brown spiked Treasury seal and a very busy, minutely detailed decorative back. The note checks all of the boxes in terms of originality, paper quality, great colors, and margins and centering for its assigned grade. It will add significant value to any collection of which it becomes a part. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
