Pour une marque qui n'existait pas il y a quarante ans, Buell a effectué un beau parcours en relativement peu de temps, avant sa triste disparition survenue il y a peu. Fondée par Erik Buell, cette firme s'était forgé une image de marque originale en construisant une gamme de motos sportives à moteur Harley-Davidson, qui alliait le traditionnel couple "de tracteur" des bicylindres du Milwaukee à un châssis à l'état de l'art, dessiné avec les dimensions et la géométrie d'une 250 de Grand Prix. La production de Buell augmentant régulièrement, Harley-Davidson s'impliqua de plus en plus dans l'entreprise, jusqu'à en prendre le contrôle. Désormais soutenu par les ressources de H-D, Erik Buell fut en mesure de pousser un cran plus loin son concept, et il lança en 2002 la Série XB au tout nouveau cadre poutre en alliage d'aluminium. Toujours à la pointe de l'innovation, ce dernier stockait l'essence dans ses longerons principaux et l'huile dans son bras oscillant.

A marque that didn't exist 40 years ago, Buell travelled a long way in a relatively short time before its recent sad demise. Founded by Erik Buell, the company established its own unique brand image, building a range of Harley-Davidson-powered sports bikes combining the Milwaukee twin's traditional 'stump pulling' torque with a state-of-the art chassis possessing the dimensions and geometry of a Grand Prix 250. As Buell production steadily increased so did Harley-Davidson's stake in the company, which would come to own outright. With H-D's resources behind him, Erik Buell was able to take his unique concept a stage further, introducing an entirely new aluminium-alloy beam chassis on the XB Series in 2002. Innovative as ever, the latter contained fuel within its main spars and oil in the swinging arm.

Currently displaying a total of 10,029km, this Buell XB12R sports roadster comes with a manufacturer's Certificate of Conformity and Belgian registration papers.
