20060: Fr. 367 $10 1890 Treasury Note PMG Superb Gem Un

[ translate ]

Fr. 367 $10 1890 Treasury Note PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ. An absolutely gorgeous example of an 1890 Treasury Ten, with a deeply printed Large Brown Seal on the face. The centering of both sides is terrific, the original embossing is pronounced across the entire surface of the note, not just on the seal and serial numbers. The colors are as equal to the day the note was printed. Just about three dozen examples of this Friedberg number are enumerated in the census. As a type, the Large Brown Seal is seen on only the Fr. 366 and Fr. 367, making this one of the rarest designs available to collectors. This is the sole finest graded example of this Friedberg number at either of the two services, and is crossing the auction block for the first time. With no Fr. 366s available in grades above 65, this is the sole-finest note for the design type available. Further illustrating the scarcity of Treasury Tens above the Gem level, the last 66 offered was back in 2011. The realization of the 66 in 2011 has already been eclipsed by a 65 EPQ that topped $40,000 earlier this year. That record will be rewritten and our estimate quickly forgotten when this peerless rarity finds a new home this evening. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
