20061: Fr. 367 $10 1890 Treasury Note PMG Choice Uncirc

[ translate ]

Fr. 367 $10 1890 Treasury Note PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. This 1890 $10 Coin note was one of a number of issues that honored Civil War Generals in the decades following the Civil War. One wonders if this was a subtle way of reminding everyone of who won the war and who did not. In this case, the honor of appearing on the $10 fell to Philip Sheridan, best remembered for his cavalry command exploits during the Civil War, some of which directly influenced Lee's surrender at Appomattox. It was first issued in 1891-93, several years after his death in 1887. His portrait is complemented by a large brown spiked Treasury seal. The back is completely filled with complex engraving that, at the time, was believed to make counterfeiting more difficult. This impressive appearing note is printed on bright original paper surfaces with deeply inked colors, and ample, even margins. PMG has spotted a solitary pinhole that has been sealed and is virtually impossible to find through the holder. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
