Fr. 1219e $1,000 1907 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 30. This Series 1907 issue was printed in the late teens while Teehee and Burke held the positions of Register of the Treasury and Treasurer. In that five year span from 1915 to 1919, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing managed to print 116,000 notes, primarily for use in bank to bank transactions. Since few notes were used in regular channels of commerce, they faced heavy redemption. Today, just four dozen survivors are reported extant. Of that number, nearly a third are permanently impounded in Federal Reserve Collections, the Smithsonian, or have never been offered at public auction. The currently offered example shows just moderate wear. The back color is its full flaming orange, not faded a bit, which is quite unusual for a high denomination gold certificate. PMG has added a comment about minor repairs but any such restorative work is minor indeed as it is not readily apparent on this most attractive $1000 Gold Certificate.
