Fr. 2407 $500 1928 Gold Certificate. PMG Very Fine 20. This is a very scarce type and denomination whose survival was inhibited by its denomination (not many people kept $500s as souvenirs) and type (Gold Certificates were recalled in 1933 and for a number of years were illegal to own). The Track and Price census, for example, enumerates 112 examples, with this serial number being new to the count. This note has the look of a survivor versus a resident of a safe or lockbox. It has seen circulation and has the folds and soiling to prove it. Fortunately it has been well enough protected to avoid any repairs or glaring condition problems.
