2016 RUF Turbo Florio

Chassis No. W09BD138XGPR06196
RUF Automobile GmbH is always ahead of the game. They have to be. The company's automobiles on which they base their creations, can be likened to a serious older brother, allowing a small amount of room for the fun-loving, younger sibling to go in a slightly different direction. The results are sometimes short-lived but always burn bright. The Yellow Bird is, of course, iconic but more recently RUF has beaten Porsche to the punch on many concepts that we take for granted today. Before Porsche delivered the 996 GT3 to US shores, RUF developed their RGT RS, specifically for the US market in a wide range of historic colors that are now extremely popular as Paint to Sample options. RUF again went retro in 2011, with the RGT8 featuring a houndstooth interior two years before Porsche reintroduced the seating fabric in the 50th Anniversary 911. The 2011 RUF RT Roadster was a modern take on the original targa concept from 1967, once again designing, engineering, and bringing to market a novel take on the 911 platform years in advance of Porsche.
It should be no surprise that in 2016, RUF, wild as ever, offered something that, once again, Porsche would not - a twin-turbo 645 hp wide-body based on a 911 Targa. Dubbed the RUF Turbo Florio, it featured the retro roll-over safety bar previewed on the 2011 RT Roadster that separates the fixed rear glass window from the soft targa top. The equally retro fixed “ducktail” rear spoiler defines the rear end, exterior air-intake ducts above the rear fenders feed fresh air to the intercoolers, and a carbon fiber diffuser assists with downforce. Up front, RUF adds their own stylistic touches to the body to balance aerodynamic gains made at the rear without comprising the Porsche based looks.
This RUF Turbo Florio was specially ordered, as most RUF creations are, and features Sicilian Blue over Dark Grey leather with Sicilian Blue Stitching. RUF turns the process of ordering a car into an art form with many different levels and types of available options. The original owner, based in the USA, must have caught a wild streak from RUF themselves adding almost 28,000 EUR in additional extras including hydraulic front axle lift, Turbo S power front seats, complete leather package, and a 12 loudspeaker, 445 watt Bose surround sound system. A copy of the original build sheet is available for review for interested parties. It is unknown just how many RUF Turbo Florios were exported to the USA but the total surely must not stretch into double digits.
Since arriving in the USA this special Turbo Florio has been in the care of RUF specialists Rstrada Limited Inc. of Torrance, California. With just over 10,000 miles accrued since purchase, trips for service work have been infrequent, with just a single invoice from October 2018 with work to a turbocharger, suspension, and an alignment performed under warranty. A scuffed carbon fiber front lip was replaced as “goodwill” work with Rstrada creating a custom bumper skid plate to reduce the chances of future damage. At the same time, the Targa Florio received a full paint correction in preparation for an application of Suntek paint protection film with full frontal coverage, and coverage of the side mirrors and rear bumper. More recently, this RUF returned to Rstrada for a service, new brakes and a new set of tires.
RUF Automobile GmbH is a special company and the cars they build are wild creations, too wild for most in fact. Luckily, there are those individuals in the world for whom a standard Porsche is not enough and Alois Ruf was one of them himself, with a thirst to build a car like the Turbo Florio. RUF's clients are famously treated like family and fun-loving as they all are, they are game changers too, always ahead of the curve, precisely like this particular car.
