20th C. Chinese Gilt Wood Panels Nature Scenes (pr)
East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty to early Republic, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A wonderful pair of wood panels of rectangular form adorned with lustrous gilding and black-painted borders. Realistically carved, these impressive examples display botanical scenes, each with two beautiful birds perched on slender branches among naturalistic leaves, many-petalled flowers, and roses. They are skillfully sculpted in an openwork style that projects outwards, enveloping the viewer into their tranquil world. Size: 10" L x 2.75" W x 6.675" H (25.4 cm x 7 cm x 17 cm)
