20th C. Chinese Polychrome Vase w/ Battle Scene

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to early Republic, ca. 20th century CE. A lovely ceramic vase, beautifully hand-painted with an intricate battle scene comprised of a horse rider and warriors, all in hues of cobalt, emerald, seafoam, aubergine, magenta, and others on a white ground. The elegant vessel presents a wide, slanted shoulder, an elongated, convex neck, and a flared spout, all atop a flat, narrow base. Elaborate floral and butterfly motifs adorn the neck and area near the base, while handles in the form of olive branches sit below the rim. A black maker's mark has been stamped on the base. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 9.8" H (11.4 cm x 24.9 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1990 to 2000
