20th C. Chinese Wood Furniture Panels Courtship (5)

East Asia, China, Republic, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A wonderful gathering of five hand-carved wood relief panels adorned in a lustrous gilding and vibrant crimson-hued paint. Each of these impressive reliefs features a narrative scene between 2 to 3 figures, primarily displaying various depictions of courtship. All are embellished with a lovely abstract border of floral or geometric motifs. Size of largest (all close in size): 13.875" L x 5.625" H (35.2 cm x 14.3 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
