East Asia, China, Republic, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A wonderful gathering of five hand-carved wood relief panels adorned in a lustrous gilding and vibrant crimson-hued paint. Each of these impressive reliefs features a narrative scene between 2 to 3 figures, primarily displaying various depictions of courtship. All are embellished with a lovely abstract border of floral or geometric motifs. Size of largest (all close in size): 13.875" L x 5.625" H (35.2 cm x 14.3 cm)

Condition Report: One repaired from two pieces with break line visible. Two have small losses to peripheries. All have nicks, chips, and abrasions throughout, commensurate with age. Otherwise, nice with lovely remains of gilding and pigment.
