[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, India, ca. mid 20th century CE. A beautiful polished steel gurkha kukri knife (or khukuri). A carved wooden handle painted in an olive green hue displays circular incised bands, an inverted triangular pommel end with a molded lion's head cap, and twenty-eight mother-of-pearl inlaid embellishments. The blade has a curved profile with a notched groove near the base, a thick exterior side and a sharpened interior edge, with floral and leafy designs in a pointillist style; the word "India" sits between two wispy areas of dot-form designs. The scabbard is made of leather-wrapped wood, with a pointed metal cap on the end, a long and thin slot for the primary blade, and two smaller insertion holes for two accompanying miniature knives. The exterior cover of the scabbard displays a series of linear and crosshatch impressed designs, making this gurkha knife all the more attractive! Size: 17" L (43.2 cm).

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

#129398
Condition Report: Handle has areas of light wear, tarnishing to pommel cap, and fading and chips to mother-of-pearl inlays. Scabbard has stretching and slight discoloration to leather exterior, slight deformation to interior wooden lining, and some fraying along edges. Both smaller knives have age-commensurate surface wear and discoloration to handles. Large blade has light abrasions and oxidation to blade faces and minor nicks to blade edge.
