[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $150**

Central Asia, India, ca. mid-20th century CE. An emblazoned polished steel Gurkha kukri knife (or khukuri). A curved wooden handle finished in a rich walnut hue displays circular incised bands, a diamond-shaped pommel end with a molded lion's head cap, and 28 inlaid mother-of-pearl embellishments. The blade has a curved profile with a notched groove near the base, a thick exterior side and a sharpened interior edge, with floral and leafy designs in a pointillist style; the word "India" sits between two wispy areas of dot-form designs. The scabbard is made of leather-wrapped wood, with a pointed metal cap on the end, and a long, thin slot for the accompanying by-knife. There is no feeling quite like holding one of these in your hands. Size: 17" L (43.2 cm).

Provenance: ex Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

#164302
Condition Report: Light yellowing of pommel base. A few chips to wooden handle. Blades in excellent condition with light oxidation at their bases. Scabbard has a split down its blade end with fraying of leather towards peripheries. Leather has begun to peel, revealing scabbard’s wood core.
