20th C. Indonesian Malay Parang w/ Horn Handle

Southeast Asia / Oceania, Malay Archipelago, probably Indonesia, ca. mid 20th century CE. A elegant example of a parang, a traditional large, machete-like knife traditionally used for clearing dense vegetation in this region. The thin, wide blade is made of iron-nickel, while the handle is water buffalo horn; the highly polished wooden sheath is also tipped by water buffalo horn. Size with sheath: 2.3" W x 23.75" H (5.8 cm x 60.3 cm)

Condition Report: The handle, guard, and tip of sheath each have a single crack in them. Light signs of wear commensurate with age on the wooden part of the sheath including some small chips and nicks. The blade is in nice condition with a few tiny nicks from its sharpened edge.
