20th C. Ottoman Steel, Silver & Wood Jambiya Knife
Near East/Western Asia, Turkey, Ottoman Empire, ca. early 20th century CE. A handsome jambiya knife with a slightly curved blade bearing a prominent midrib. The iron blade appears to be from a much older knife and is lovingly redesigned with this polished wood handle and sheath. A 39% silver spacer band encircles the lower portion of the blade where the tang connects with the wood handle. The thick handle and sheath are made from a dark polished wood. The tip of the sheath is covered with a 90% to 93% silver chape and silver fitting around the opening for the blade. Size of blade: 7.5" L x 1.25" W (19 cm x 3.2 cm) in sheath: 13.25" L x 2" W (33.7 cm x 5.1 cm); quality of silver: 39% to 93%
