20th C. South American Aymara Coca Bag w/ Animal Motifs

South America, Bolivia, Aymara People, Eucaliptos Region, ca. mid 20th century CE. A bright, finely-woven coca bag of camelid fibers with a braided shoulder strap. Repeated tiny images of interlocking people and animals decorate the surface of one side. The other side has narrow bands of white across a field of red, with a colorful vertical stripe down the center. Whites, reds, pinks, yellows, and greens create a beautiful profusion of artwork on the surface. Size without : 9.75" W x 10.25" H (24.8 cm x 26 cm)

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
