This lot includes Letters that Elaine wrote to her Mother and others from 1949 to 1953. 1949 - Includes a 4 page double sided letter dated 12-13-49 to Elaines Mom and Aunt on Hotel Algonquin stationary in which they are now a couple back in New York and John introduces Elaine to everyone. They have only been in NY a week. Letter to Cath - post Christmas - In this 4 page double sided letter, John and Elaine just moved into their apartment in NY and they had an awesome Holiday together. 1950 - a letter Elaine wrote to Keogh Gleason and she explains that John has been writing and mentions "Burning Bright" Did Elaine write burning bright? She says its "His play? ha! ha!" There is also a letter from Waverly when she is visiting Zachary Scotts parents in TX and a newspaper clipping of the grandkids. 1951 - In the summer of 1951 John and Elaine plus the boys and their dog Val drove up from NY to Woods Hole, then took the ferry to Nantucket. it was here John Steinbeck wrote "East of Eden". 1952 - 13 letters from 1952 mostly to Elaines Mom and Aunt. Some highlights include a letter dated 2-26-52, in which way says "Mommy, I have the mumps." Letter dated 3-25-52, They sailed this is from boat and for Way, Great Trip, We dont have the mumps." June 23, 1952 Elaine Writes to Sally Keith, We've arrived in Rome". Letter dated 8-26-52 from Paris, Letter not dated to Elaines Mom along with a photo and newspaper article from Venice "about j's fight with the communists was on front page". There is another very descritive letter to Elaines mom about the complete trip in 1952. 1953 - Four letters to Elaines mom, one is a Merry Christmas from Italy.
